This is the most important thing I will post today. I am very serious. Here’s the link, come back to it after reading what follows.
A few days back I posted a couple of articles about a scurrilous piece on the Koch brothers written by WAPO “journalists” Juliet Eilperin and Steve Mufson. (Eilperin is married to aguy who works for the climate arm of John Podesta’s Center for American Progress; yeah, no conflict of interest there!)
John Hinderaker of Powerline blog proceeded to eviscerate their claims and betray them to all as stone liars. So convincing was his take-down that the WAPO reporters felt constrained to respond. Their defense was, [I]ssues surrounding the Koch brothers’ political and business interests will stir and inflame public debate in this election year.”
Got it. Say any kind of inflammatory thing you want, even lie, because it’s an election year and that creates interest.
Days later, Dem Congressmen Sheldon Whitehouse and Henry Waxman sent a letter to the Kochs in which they relied heavily on footnoted material from the WAPO article in demanding answers to questions the gist of which was that the Kochs are influencing the Keystone pipeline debate because the pipeline will enrich them. In addition to all of this having been shown by Hinderaker to be a lie (the pipeline would actually damage the Kochs financial interests), it gives the appearance of collusion between the Democratic Party and one of the nation’s premiere and ostensibly non-partisan newspapers.
Hinderaker has sent a follow-up letter to WAPO cc’ing the reporters and editors involved. They won’t respond to him. At the link above are the e-mail addresses of the suddenly silent WAPO employees. Hinderaker has asked his followers to message them and request that they respond to his letter.
I am posting this and making a request of my own. Write one e-mail and cc the rest of them. Let them know we are out here and paying attention.
